Justice for Vicha
CVC is a proud supporter of the Justice for Vicha Ratanapakdee Foundation, whose mission is to honor the legacy of Vicha Ratanapakdee through civil right advocacy, victim’s rights awareness, and uplifting the AAPI community.
We are so honored to have worked closely with Monthanus Ratanapadkee and her family in honoring her father, who was tragically taken from this Earth in a senseless act of racially motivated violence. During the Covid-19 Pandemic, the world saw a sudden spike in xenophobic and violent acts against Asian Peoples. On January 28, 2021, Vicha Ratanapakdee was taking his daily walk through the Anza Vista Neighborhood when he was brutally attacked, resulting in fatal injuries. Since Vicha’s passing, his family has been attending endless hearings in the hopes of finally obtaining Justice for Vicha.
Vicha’s death inspired a new generation of activists, including many of us at CVC, to rise up and advocate for our AAPI community. Some of our most cherished projects include those with the Ratanapakdee family and remembering Grandpa Vicha, including the unveiling of the Justice for Vicha Mural in SF Chinatown in 2021, the Vicha Ratanapakdee Way Street renaming in the Anza Vista Neighborhood in 2022, and this year’s Vicha remembrance ceremony.
Though we wish we had met Ratanapadkee family under happier circumstances, we are eternally grateful for the opportunity to work with the Justice for Vicha Ratanapakdee Foundation in remembering and honoring the life and legacy of Grandpa Vicha.
